Between 1993 and 2008 Companions 360opera has produced some of the best-known opera titles in a convincing mix of high artistic and musical quality and a spectacular "360°" presentation. Staged in venues and stadiums with seating capacities from 10.000 to 75.000 in Europe and Asia, we have reached more than one million spectators in the 15 years of producing. We are proud that we have helped bringing opera to a broader audience in so many cities.
Companions 360opera productions offered the audience a top down viewing experience and a close proximity to the spectacle. The size of the stage area immersed the viewers into a ‘living history journey’ through different worlds and atmospheres, like a 3D film, but without the 3D glasses. The entire floor of the arena or the stadium changed into a magical spellbound theatrical world using elaborate stage settings, with first class singers and actors and the best local orchestra and choir. With state-of-the-art light and sound technology as well as special effects, the productions addressed all senses to the max. Offering each and everyone in the audience an unforgettable evening and unique experience, of which the available CD- and live DVD-recordings are the persuasive proof.
All performances of the 7 opera productions are memorable, but of course some are more significant:
• the 1st in-the-round opera ever, the Cavalleria Rusticana & Pagliacci production in Ahoy Rotterdam in January 1994
• the 1st stadium version of our Aida, in the Schalke Arena (Veltins) in Gelsenkirchen and in the Stade de France in Paris, both in September 2001
• the 1st Asian production, Carmen in the Shanghai Stadium in October 2004
• Nabucco, in Stade de France, Paris in October 2008, the final performance.
Although there was still market demand for the productions, we also felt that our way of producing, and subsequently the high ticket prices charged, would not stand a chance in a time were each and every household was hit by the economic crisis. Knowing that all our personnel have found excellent positions elsewhere in the industry, we have peace with our decision to stop and, thankfully, we have found ‘many new homes’ for all of our set pieces, props and costumes.
To keep these 15 successful years alive Companions 360opera continues this website and added 'behind the scene-pictures', as homage to all the people who participated in the productions. The CD recordings are relaunched by United Classics and available in the shops as well as in the iTunes store. Soon our DVD recordings will also be downloadable in the iTunes store.
